Indefinite Strike Threaten By Traspoters of Twin City
The transporters associations of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have threatened to go on wheel-jam strike for indefinite period from the next month if the fresh increase in petroleum prices is not withdrawn.
Talking to this agency here Wednesday, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Transporters Association President Malik Muhammad Sultan and Pakistan Mutahidda Transport Association President Haji Akhtar said that a meeting of all transporters unions would be held on August 01 to decide about the future course of action in this regard.
Mohammad Sultan said that the only demand of the transporters was to decrease petroleum prices and they were not in favour of increase in fares. He said that commuters were already facing the burden of heavy fares and price hike had made their lives miserable. He urged the common people and commuters to join hands with commuters to tackle this situation.
Haji Akhtar said that hike in petroleum prices has not only disturbed the communication and transportation system, but also affected trade activities. He said that the government should decrease its lavish expenditure instead of increasing oil prices. He vowed that transporters associations would continue their struggle in bringing down the oil prices.
