OS Piracy – A Trend or Need ??
“Copyrights Protected” we are familiar with this statement and have seen this many times during our daily life from a cassette or CD we just bought to a software or website, we encounter in E-World. Those who break these Copyright Rules are known as “Pirates” in cyber world and hence the stuff with illegal reproduction is known as “Pirated Material”. All of us are using this stuff in our daily life, while DMCA has very strict rules against copyrighted material and thus not to be reproduced.
But when we look around in our daily life, are we Piracy free?
From a small Media Player to a Video Editor, from a Trojan Remover to an Anti-virus ultimately from a small website script to a well developed portal, everything we are using is pirated and we are violating laws. But this can be digested, lets suppose we ignore it, lets come to main point, don’t we need a platform to run all these applications? Yes surly we do and here we come to the platform that is our OS (Operating System).
Using pirated software often known as Warez is at one extent, but what about the operating system we are using. I don’t think so most of us know that the Windows we are using is how much worth of? Did we ever bother to know?
Microsoft Windows XP, most common with home users, is a licensed product of Microsoft Corp. And they do not allow its illegal reproduction and publication. But how many of us are using Licensed Version of Microsoft Windows? I don’t think so not a single one here in our society. All we just know is that whenever windows is to be changed, we can easily get a pirated copy of windows from market in 20 to 50 rupees. While the real prices for legal copy are very beyond above our expectations. Windows XP costs around 13000 rupees, Windows Vista around 11,000 rupees, Microsoft Office 2007 worth Rs. 13,000 and Windows Server wirth Rs. 210000, if we are to buy a legal copy. Else a pirated copy is available in DVD in just 50 to 100 rupees.
Will we ever bother to pay 13000 just for an operating system? Surly we never will. But WHY?
Windows is such a necessary thing that any computer user cannot dwell without it. So to get his/her work done, he/she will buy a pirated and no one is here to put the law in action.
But is this what we will always carry on? I am not asking anyone to do buy a licensed version as I am not a Microsoft representative
but my question is:
When everyone, even Microsoft itself knows that max percentage of windows user are using illegal version and all of us also know that we will never be agreed to buy legal license. But then why these DMCA rules are so strict?
Should we change our thinking to leave piracy and everyone should pay for what he/she uses or the companies like Microsoft, Symantec, vBulletin and some other companies should admit this fact that piracy cannot be controlled anymore, so the sentence “COPYRIGHTS PROTECTED” should be omitted ?
HERE THE QUESTION IS LEFT UN-ANSWERED UNTIL ONE CHANGES MINDSET EITHER WE OR THE LICENSE OWNERS.

u forgot to mention that its near impossible to find a genuine windows OS these days. at least not in rwp. i wanted to get a genuine Windows XP installed on my laptop, which btw i think should have come with the original OS pre-installed, but the retailer said they are not available.
back to pirated software then. u can’t even get a genuine anti-virus, and i consider an anti-virus an investment. and yeah….13k that’s like a $150. maybe $150 is ok for an american, they get most cell phones on contract for that kind of money, but i think MS should subsidize it a bit more for our country. this way they would get ‘something’ and opposed to the ‘nothing’ they are getting now
So You think Microsft should not apply so much prices for the coutries like ours. and by the way it is not impossible, i can provide you with geniune XP that even updates from Microsoft and Microsoft says it is geniune and velidated
