Mobilink ARPU up by 9% in Q3 – 2009
Mobilink claimed that use of its services increased as its Average Revenue per User (ARPU) witnessed growth of nine percent in third quarter of the current fiscal year 2009 compared with the corresponding period of last year.
The financial results released by Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) recently showed that the ARPU increased to Rs 234 in the Jul-Sept 2009 against Rs 215 ARPU recorded in same period last year.
Mobilink revenue growth from its subscribers was seen increasing as the average Minute of Use (MOU) of its customers surged tremendously by 17.1 percent in this period.
The subscribers’ usage of telephony services increased to 198 minutes by the end of third quarter of 2009, which is the first quarter of country’s financial year, as compared to 169 minutes usage registered last year.
In the last quarter, the Egypt-based cellular phone company has offered different calling and SMS packages that caused positive impacts on the consumption pattern of its customers, thereby MOU surge significantly.
The largest subscribers’ base company, Mobilink, also witnessed expansion in its customers’ base with 0.91 million addition in the third quarter as against second quarter of the same year. The overall subscribers’ base reached 30.046 million by the end of September 2009.
According to the OTH financial statement, Mobilink’s market share increased from 40.62 percent in Q2-2009 to 40.70 percent by the end of Q3.
“Mobilink continued its three prong approach which focused on acquiring new customers, retention of existing base and usage enhancement. The launch of revival campaign with strong media backup helped increase the active subscriber base,” it further added.
Mobilink, amid tough competition in the cellular phone market, managed to post a 0.3 percent growth in revenue in Q3-2009. It has earned Rs 64.1 billion in Jul-Sep 2009 as compared to Rs 63.9 billion income recorded in the same period last year.
However, the rupee depreciation against dollar has dragged the company’s revenue in the red. In terms of dollar, Mobilink’s revenue earning has fallen sharply by 15.7 percent in Q3-2009. It earned $787.99 million in the Jul-Sept 2009 as compared to the revenue generation of $934.59 million in the corresponding period of last year.
