Government to Change IT Policy
Federal Secretary IT and Telecom Naguibullah Malik has said that there is a serious need to review and reshape the IT and Telecom policy of Pakistan for which the government is going to make changes in the policy very soon by using the input of all the stakeholders.
He said that the modern day function of the government was to act as a facilitating body rather than a regulatory body, and the Information Technology ministry would do all in its powers to encourage and boost the IT culture.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Shaheen Complex, the ninth National Software Technology Park, he said that the government was committed to encouraging and supporting all efforts by public and private sectors. Talking about the Shaheen Complex, he said that it was imperative for the IT based businesses and others who needed 24/7 internet and power backup but could not afford a standalone set up.
The Shaheen Complex is a joint venture of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and Shaheen Foundation. The IT services and networking has been facilitated by PSEB throughout the STP and is also responsible for its repair and maintenance.
He said that Shaheen Complex was the fifth STP in Lahore and there would be many more suited to the requirements and demands of the IT business. He said that he would soon arrange a meeting with the players of the IT business for input regarding reviewing of the IT and Telecom policy of the country.
Representing Shaheen Foundation, a Charitable Organisation of the Pakistan Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Retd Ikram Bhatti said that the STP was a golden opportunity for the proponents of the IT business to flourish in an uninterrupted environment with international standard services included in the STP.
