In a blog post, the micro blogging company, Twitter has reveled that it has just crossed 50 million tweets a day by its users. Stats show gradual rise in increasing tweets but after July 2009, uptil now there is an abrupt uplift which makes Twitter to have 50 million tweets a day.

Twitter blog said that:

Folks were tweeting 5,000 times a day in 2007. By 2008, that number was 300,000, and by 2009 it had grown to 2.5 million per day. Tweets grew 1,400% last year to 35 million per day. Today, we are seeing 50 million tweets per day—that’s an average of 600 tweets per second. (Yes, we have TPS reports.)

Kevin Weil of the Twitter analytics team said that the chart of tweet growth does not include spam, but didn’t give much other detail about how the tweet spread breaks down. Like how many tweets are from bots, how many from celebrities, how many from what countries, how many from the long tail, about which Twitter has promised to reveal afterwards.
