Youth Comes Together To Celebrate Diversity & Pluralism
The Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan recently launched their annual residential Youth Convention – Broadening Horizons Youth Convention (BHYC) 2010 to celebrate the theme of pluralism and diversity.
“Broadening Horizons”, was a four-day residential convention, aiming to enhance the vision of youth beyond the conservative norms and paradigms, in relation to the swiftly varying global scenarios.
The event provided the youth with a holistic approach towards life to help them understand and live the essence of diversity and pluralism. The convention exposed the youth to diverse world views, learning opportunities and networking.
The four days convention featured Panel discussions, thematic workshops, field trips and intellectual discourses to introduce the participants to the idea of pluralism. It helped them explore its academic roots, study its practical implications in solving modern-day conflicts and express the notion through aesthetics.
Speaking to the opening ceremony of the convention, Provincial Minister for Tourism, Shazia Marri, said that, “This convention is one of its kinds where the participants will not just explore the various challenges and aspects of life personally and globally but will also get a good chance to learn from the different backgrounds and cultures of each other, which I am sure will help them to embrace diversity and its beauty”.

Addressing the participants, Chairperson Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for Pakistan, Ms Shams Jeewa said “this convention will be a roller coaster ride for you in which you will not only have the opportunity to listen to professional speakers, but also engage in sports and exercise”
Professor Abbas Hussain, Rumana Hussain (author of the book “Karachiwala”) and Dr. Al Karim Datoo also share their personal and professional views with the participants at different sessions. The rigorous convention with well-designed interactive sessions helped stimulate creativity, intellectual curiosity and honest inquiry among the youth to allow for their personal growth in approaching the challenges of tomorrow in a new way and coming up with relevant solutions.
