QMobile one of the emerging companies in the mobile phone industry is making progress in a real good manner. Earlier the site had some issues regarding design and server side management as we reported earlier. This time QMobile comes up again with exciting and eye-catching design.

QMobile website showed up Account Suspended and went offline for days. Despite good marketing and products the QMobile guys seemed to be reluctant to pay attention to their official website.

But this time it seems like the real action has been taken. Fully flash design with alot of new features like Product List with complete features, User Manuals, Phone Suite and others.

Well done with their site design, but still there some issues as their blog url and server records still tell the same story. As reported earlier, the site is seemed to be hosted on a shared hosting account. Whois records of QMobile.com.pk still shows following stats:

Till now, the official words from QMobile are:

Thank you Ahsan for updates and the script.. We will defiantly take action for it.
Zeeshan Yousuf

Manages Sales – QMobile, gave testimonial at the site designer’s page as follows:

“Thank you so much for getting our website off to the most wonderful start! I have thought about this for a very long time, and now finally Q Mobile new website is ready!”

Manager Sales

Q Mobile

Zong has already fixed their bug as PkReaders notified them regarding the fake search box on their website. This time, QMobile too takes action regarding their one, but still it seems like QMobile needs to be more concerned about site issues, because in growing IT culture, having your solid official website is as important as your products.

Geo News confirms that LHC has ordered PTA to lift ban on facebook. The ban on facebook prolonged for nearly two weeks after the popular social networking website was blocked nationwide in a row over blasphemy. Furthermore GEO states, facebook has assured not to conduct these kind of contests in future.

Justice Ejaz Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court issued the directive, reversing a May 19 order on the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to block Facebook over “blasphemous” drawings of Prophet Mohammed on the website.

“Restore Facebook. We don’t want to block access to information,” Chaudhry told the court.

A contest organised by a Facebook user calling on people to draw the Prophet Mohammed to promote “freedom of expression” sparked a major backlash in the conservative Muslim country of 170 million.

Chaudhry on Monday asked the government to develop a system to block access to “blasphemous” content on the Internet, which he said was already in place in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

“It is the government’s job to take care of such things, which spark resentment among the people and bring them onto the streets. They should take steps to block any blasphemous content on the Internet,” Chaudhry said.

The court Monday adjourned until June 15 the petitions from the Islamic lawyers.

Mudassir Hussain, an official from the information technology ministry, told the court that all links to “blasphemous” content on the Internet would remain blocked in Pakistan.

There can be different outcomes and consequences regarding the lift as majority is in favor of ban, but still it is unpredictable, what to come. What really is public opinion and response regarding lifting the ban, everyone has freedom of speech and liking/disliking but the anticipated protests are not anyone’s legitimate rights.

This the time when, i must say, we got the biggest security hole in pakistan’s official sites. FIA’s National Response Centre For Cyber Crimes got defaced by as usual PakBugs. We see alot of other sites – infact important sites defaced by them but this time the Cyber Wing got caught.

Zombie_KsA the leader of Pakbugs crew bangs Pakistan cyber security with another blow. This really was one of the biggest blows to Pakistan security, as we previously seen many important sites like pid.gov.pk paf.gov.pk and alot others got defaced but this time it is the law enforcement wing of pak-cyber got defaced itself.

All private emails and data is leaked and hacker claims “i was really excited to read, see what the *** is private in here lOl.”

Here is the screen shot of what the page looked like when defaced.

The orignal defaced page can be viewed here.

Following is the screenshot of showing emails of the site- which actually is the screenshot of Cpanel and all POP3 mails are visible, which can be accessed now by the hacker.

Site was defaced yesterday ( to be very presice at 03:59 PM) and it is still down with under maintenance message.

Now, I must quote the very meaningful line by the hacker:

what i can see, I Guess, Federal Investigation Dept of Pakistan is in Wrong, Untalented Hands !!

i was wondering if some one wanted to report, complain, track, someone ?

where shall they go ?

FIA or Pakbugs ?

I Guess Pakbugs, bcoz our e-mail and private data won’t leaked, like you

When will we learn from all this ? When our Govt. and concerned ones will have enough time to think on taking proper action regarding the issues they have been elected for.

In an attempt to expose holes in the security of global wireless systems, 28-year-old Karsten Nohl cracked the 21-year-old GSM algorithm, which is used to encrypt 80 percent of the world’s mobile calls. Karsten Nohl, working with other experts, has spent the past five months cracking the algorithm used to encrypt calls using GSM technology.

A German computer scientist Karsten Nohl has published details of the secret code used to protect the conversations of more than 4bn mobile phone users.

GSM is the most popular standard for mobile networks around the world.

The work could allow anyone – including criminals – to eavesdrop on private phone conversations.

Mr Nohl told the Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin that the work showed that GSM security was “inadequate”.

We are trying to inform people about this widespread vulnerability. We hope to create some additional pressure and demand from customers for better encryption.

On the other hand, The GSM Association (GSMA), which devised the algorithm and oversees development of the standard, said Mr Nohl’s work would be “highly illegal” in the UK and many other countries.

“This isn’t something that we take lightly at all,” a spokeswoman said.

Mr Nohl said that he had consulted with lawyers before publication and believed the work was “legal”.

‘Secret Key’

Mr Nohl, working with a few dozen other people, claims to have published material that would crack the A5/1 algorithm, a 22-year-old code used by many carriers. The code is designed to prevent phone calls from being intercepted by forcing mobile phones and base stations to rapidly change radio frequencies over a spectrum of 80 channels.

It is known to have a series of weaknesses with the first serious flaw exposed in 1994. Mr Nohl, who describes himself as an “offensive security researcher”, announced his intention to crack the code at the Hacking at Random (HAR) conference in The Netherlands in August this year.

Nohl said, “Any cryptographic function is a one way street, You should not be able to decrypt without the secret key”.

To get around this problem, Mr Nohl, working with other members of the encryption community, used networks of computers to crunch through “every possible combination” of inputs and outputs for the encryption code. Mr Nohl said there were “trillions” of possibilities.

All of the outputs are now detailed in a vast table, which can be used to determine the encryption key used to secure the conversation or text message. “It’s like a telephone book – if someone tells you a name you can look up their number,” he said.

Using the codebook, a “beefy gaming computer and $3,000 worth of radio equipment” would allow anyone to decrypt signals from the billions of GSM users around the world, he said. Signals could be decrypted in “real time” with $30,000 worth of equipment, Mr Nohl added.

‘Not practical’

It has previously been possible to decrypt GSM signals to listen in on conversations, but the equipment cost “hundreds of thousands of dollars,” experts said.

According to Ian Meakin, of mobile encryption firm Cellcrypt, only government agencies and “well funded” criminals had access to the necessary technology.

He described Mr Nohl’s work as a “massive worry”.

“It lowers the bar for people and organisations to crack GSM calls, It inadvertently puts these tools and techniques in the hands of criminals.” Ian said.

However, the GSMA dismissed the worries, saying that “reports of an imminent GSM eavesdropping capability” were “common”.

It said that there had been “a number” of academic papers outlining how A5/1 could be compromised but “none to date have led to a practical attack”.

The association said that it had already outlined a proposal to upgrade A5/1 to a new standard known as A5/3 which was currently being “phased in”.

“All in all, we consider this research, which appears to be motivated in part by commercial considerations, to be a long way from being a practical attack on GSM,” the spokeswoman said.

PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) ought to join hand with other big giants like Google and Local Clients as Many University Officials and Companies’ respective departments to force the domain registrar to mark this domain as fraudulent and should ban it.

This is not a simple misuse of a domain, here we are having whole .pk domains under attack. And many people may get caught by this trick, this may be just to bring enough traffic and top position in search reult but the bad image creating on .pk domains is even worse.

Even if domain cannot be banned by its registrar, PTA should ban this domain in pakistan on all ISPs.

Regarding this all effected ones are requested to join hands with each other to make PTA think about taking this action. This may not create a big difference, but adding something to your country name is worthless, but here is the time when we need to protect our country name.

Open request to PTA and all Authorities, Please Do Something.!

Copies of this article have been forward to the Vice Chairman of UET, Webmaster AIOU, PTA, BISE Webmaster, Effected Telecom Companies and others to be forward soon.

*NOTE: PK.Com and all fake subdomains contain real nasty stuff, so it is strongly recommended by PKReaders, not to open that or do so on your own.

Regards

FIA and PTA have been busy these days raiding illegal VoIP exchanges. These exchanges illegally terminate international calls and then use cellular SIMs to deliver the call to end users. Through following diagram we can understand what actually happens through the whole process…!

Its very simple, If you get an International Call with Local Mobile/PTCL number, be informed that this is an illegal call. Now the Question is Why They do So? and my answer is that when a call comes through proper gateway (Pakistan’s international gateway), the caller will have to pay taxes and government dues. Moreover, at this point of time, VoIP is illegal in Pakistan, so in any case, its an illegal activity.

And in the end What Should You do?

We Should Help the government by informing these numbers (local numbers from where you get calls) or register those numbers on FIA directly.
