Through the Rural Telecom Projects of Universal Service Fund, Telenor and CMPak have completed 62 solar powered sites in Mirpur Khas (34 sites), Bahawalpur (13 sites) and Nasirabad (15 sites). A population of 2.37 million people will be benefitting from these projects in total which resides in the districts of Sanghar, Tharparkar Umerkot and Mirpur Khas in Mirpur Khas lot (218 muzas), Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan Districts in Bahawalpur Lot (888 muzas) and Bolan, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi and Nasirabad in Nasirabad lot (648 muzas).

Since commercial power has not reached most of the areas where USF is running rural telecom projects, it proved to be a barrier to provide smooth uninterrupted telecom service. Even where commercial power infrastructure is available, the availability of power is extremely limited.

As a result, the telecom operators had to rely completely on diesel generators. Not only there was the cost of diesel, the transport and re-fueling at these sites was also a big and expensive hassle. At the same time, there was also a great need for cross-cutting operational expenses for maintenance of remote and hard-to-reach sites. Therefore, following a consultative process where all stakeholders participated, it was decided that operators will bid for all future infrastructure in un-served areas with renewable energy solutions.

This decision has played an important role in reducing the energy costs and is also a small contribution towards dealing with the energy crisis in Pakistan. Moreover, this initiative will also help in reducing carbon content in the atmosphere.

Overall, the projects being executed by Universal Service Fund are showing great progress as the number of previously un-served Mauzas where service has been provided has crossed 3,500 and number of small towns and cities with broadband connections is approaching 200. At the same time, nearly 1,000 kms of Fiber Cables have been laid to connect Tehsils so far not served with Optical Fiber. Technical Audits are in progress at all the sites where the Operators have claimed to have completed the milestones, as payments are made only after full verification of the achieved targets by technical auditors.

Previously, SMS delivery was given by most operators free of cost but due to the traffic on the messaging system owing to these delivery reports, most of the times the operators would shut down the delivery report service. This would leave subscribers in the dark having no option of knowing whether it is a system glitch or their SMS has not been delivered. Currently operators are revisiting their SMS delivery report situation and developing a charged subscription service for this purpose.

This service will add to the list of value added services being provided to its customers. With this service, customers will get information in real time as soon as the SMS is delivered to the recipient and will be assured of the delivery of their SMS on the destination.

Subscription:

For subscription, subscriber can send “SUB” to 533 for activation of this service

Charges:

The charges for Delivery Report Service are Rs 10+t per month.

ZONG, the first international brand of China Mobile has introduced the Family Pack, a revolutionary service that meets the needs of the whole family or any group of three. ZONG has again taken the lead in offering high utility, affordable packages to their subscribers.

With the Family Pack one person of the group of three is charged the nominal sum of Rs. 799 per month after subscription and all the following among those three people are free. There are no restrictions on how long the calls have to be and what time they are made, so family members can speak to each other without worrying about additional costs.

Moreover, it is incredibly easy to activate the Family Pack on any ZONG number. One person, the one who is to be charged for the service, dials 930 and enters the numbers of the other two ZONG consumers to complete the group. After that all subsequent calls amongst that group will be free.

The group is not ‘permanent’ either because subscribers can change their group members, or the other two numbers, each month should they need to.

Awais Malik, Director Segment, Products, & International Business, ZONG, while expressing his views said that the new package was designed to meet the needs of families and friends who would like to keep in touch more regularly but worry about running up their phone bills. He said that ZONG is determined to provide packages appropriate for every segment of their subscriber base.

Awais Malik said:

There is no reason why a child studying in a different city should not be able to talk to his parents daily and for as long as they want. The Family Pack is another step in the ZONG philosophy of bringing people closer every second, every day.

It’s been a long time since i noticed it but was simply ignoring it, considering, may be some kind of “under maintenance”. But still it is the same. Have a look at the lower right corner at Zong’s website. What you got? A search field? Please double check it.

Obviously NO. A simple image is there showing search box. And it is there since the Zong’s website got uploaded.

Now, whom to blame? Is it like Zong got fooled by eConceptions or the management team itself is biased.

Zong’s website is designed by eConceptions. and if you go through it, you will surely say – A Professionally Designed Website, but have a look at E-Profile link. you get redirected to index page as you click on it. Seems like they themselves are under maintenance.

Whatsoever is the case at eConceptions’ website, Zong’s website needs attention to develop search system or they should remove that fake image, which in any case is not a standard.

We had previously published Zong Reaches Educational Institues for Advertisement. It may be a good or bad tactic to go for educational institues for this kinda publicity – cannot say anything at this stage, but surely it was possible with the consent of University’s Management and concerned authorities. We seen Zong taking over every possible place in UET which can be taken as “To Let”.

Previously we seen Zong Banner on buses which was strange to us as cellular company to reaches educational institute like this but the story didn’t end yet, Zong kept on occupying all places in UET from cafeteria to departments, from bus stands to waiting points.

Here are some pictures taken at UET, we see Zong Posters and Benches in bus stand waiting area

and at barriers which are now everywhere in UET, since intense security measures were taken after drastic situation of terrorism in Pakistan, these barriers are from Main gates to each and every wide turn.

and then all old boards displaying Department Names are now replaced by newer ones, which are also provided by Zong.

Obviously, Zong must have been paying for these new additions but as we often see construction and add-ons often in UET consisting of real big projects and investment, so at this stage i cannot think this is to earn some bucks for UET as it already gets huge grants from govt.

Who knows where these interest are being deposit, maybe someone from the managing body or someone else, will surely add to this as we get clear and authentic detail.

We had Already covered Mobilink offered 668 Complaint Form. This Time Zong come up with the same thing, if number of Zong SIMs issued against your NIC is wrong, as per PTA 668 service, contact Zong via Complaint Form and you will get your issue solved. Procedure is same as previously described.

Following is the simple procedure to get your data corrected:

1. Visit PTA’s Sim Information System

2. If number of Zong Sims issued against your NIC is wrong, Download the Zong Complaint Form

3. Fill out the form and send a scanned copy of form to Mobilink at customerservices@zong.com.pk

4. Attach scanned NIC (both side) and Passport with mail.

5. Do not forget to put your NIC Number as the Subject of Email.

A reference number will be issued against your complaint and Zong will coordinate with PTA regarding the issue. Extra SIMs issued will be removed after 24 hours of your complaint but PTA database takes 45 days to get update. So wait for 45 days then to have your data verified, if corrected.

Advertisement is the key factor in deciding the level of success one product gains in market, here in modern world, where we see a lot of means of advertisement, one of the common method came to scene was a kind of mobile advertisement. Painted buses describing specific product. Here Zong reaches UET Lahore’s route buses to have its publicity.

Painted inter-city buses were already known to us but it is the time when zong reaches educational institute to get its banner placed on university buses. Zong may be thinking to get name among students or may be some other factor behind it, but following images show the zong banner placed at rear of each bus of UET Lahore.

Click on the image to get a larger view

UET currently owns about 40 buses for its route (students pick and drop service) and the banner has been placed on all of them. Images are taken today by us and are property of PkReaders.
